Fighting Spam with iMailBox

  • Use an iMailBox Email Alias to cut back on SPAM
  • If you post to a usergroup, or on a mailing list, you run the risk of being spammed. Spammers will cull email addresses out of postings and send you unsolicited junk email. So set up an email alias and use it to post to your favorite groups/lists. We'll forward email directed to your alias to your primary email address. When you're getting too much SPAM with the alias, drop it, and create another.

Remember, email aliases are free and you may have up to 3.

  • Never respond to SPAM
  • Responding to SPAM, even by sending a "remove" or "unsubscribe" message, validates your email address. And once your email address is validated, it may be sold to other SPAMmers.

  • Write to the Postmaster
  • Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Email Service Providers (ESPs) have policies against spamming. Check the headers of the spam, and forward the message to the postmaster(s) for those domains involved. If you get a message from somebody@someplace.com, send a note to postmaster@someplace.com and let them know you've been spammed. Copy abuse@someplace.com and root@someplace.com.
